Terms of Service
Specific terms for Narrow & Wide services.
These Terms of Service are written in plain English to explain how Narrow & Wide services may work. They should be reviewed before full commercial launch.
Last updated: April 2026
These Terms of Service apply when you use Narrow & Wide services, including boat listings, Directory entries, Boat Log, expense tracking, cost tools, account features, paid services, early access tools, and any future premium features.
They sit alongside our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, Community Values, and any specific terms shown at the point of purchase or sign-up.
In plain English
Services may change
Narrow & Wide is evolving. Some services may start simple, change over time, or be removed if they are not useful or sustainable.
Listings need honest information
If you list a boat, business, service, place, or public note, you are responsible for making sure the information is accurate, lawful, fair, and not misleading.
Boat Log is your record
Boat Log is intended as a private record-keeping tool, with optional public sharing where you choose to publish selected notes.
Paid features will have clear terms
Paid listings, upgrades, subscriptions, premium tools, and business profiles will show relevant pricing and terms before purchase or sign-up.
Tools are not professional advice
Cost tools, guides, listings, public notes, and service information are for general information only. They do not replace surveys, legal checks, financial advice, insurance advice, or professional judgement.

Listings, Directory, and public content
3. Boat listing services
Narrow & Wide may allow private sellers, brokers, marinas, or authorised representatives to list boats for sale.
If you use our listing services, you confirm that:
- you own the boat or have authority to list it
- the information you provide is accurate to the best of your knowledge
- you will not deliberately hide important known issues
- you have the right to use any images, descriptions, documents, or media you upload
- your listing is lawful and not misleading
- you will update or remove the listing if the boat is sold, withdrawn, unavailable, or materially changed
Boat listings may include information about price, length, type, builder, age, location, condition, layout, engine, hull, systems, equipment, Boat Safety Scheme information, mooring, defects, photographs, videos, documents, or other relevant details.
Narrow & Wide may edit formatting, request clarification, decline, hide, or remove listings where needed to protect the quality and trustworthiness of the platform.
We do not guarantee that any listing is accurate, complete, current, available, legally valid, or suitable for any buyer.
Buyers must carry out their own checks before making decisions.
4. Buyer responsibility
Narrow & Wide can help buyers find and understand boats, but we are not a broker, surveyor, solicitor, financial adviser, insurer, marine engineer, or safety authority.
Before buying or committing to a boat, buyers should carry out appropriate checks. These may include:
- viewing the boat in person where possible
- checking ownership and authority to sell
- arranging an independent survey
- checking Boat Safety Scheme status
- checking licence, mooring, insurance, and finance implications
- checking engine, hull, electrics, gas, heating, plumbing, batteries, solar, and other systems
- seeking legal, financial, survey, insurance, or technical advice where appropriate
Any purchase, negotiation, deposit, payment, contract, survey, or transfer is between the buyer and seller unless clearly stated otherwise.
Narrow & Wide helps with discovery and understanding. It does not replace due diligence.
5. Seller, broker, marina, and business services
Narrow & Wide may offer services for sellers, brokers, marinas, yards, surveyors, engineers, chandlers, and other canal-side or boating-related businesses.
These services may include:
- business profiles
- broker or marina pages
- Directory entries
- premium visibility
- featured placement
- listing packages
- analytics
- profile upgrades
- sponsored content or advertising
- enquiry tools
- business dashboards
If you use a business service, you confirm that:
- you have authority to act for the business or organisation
- the information you provide is accurate and lawful
- you will not impersonate another person or business
- you will not submit misleading claims, fake endorsements, or false reviews
- you will update information where important details change
We may verify, edit, merge, reject, suspend, or remove business information to protect users and platform quality.
6. Directory and place information
The Directory may include businesses, services, marinas, moorings, facilities, places, stopovers, pubs, cafés, yards, water points, pump-outs, and other useful inland waterways information.
Directory and place information may come from:
- businesses
- users
- public sources
- Narrow & Wide research
- Boat Log public notes
- reviews
- corrections or suggestions
We try to make Directory information useful, but we do not guarantee that it is complete, accurate, current, available, open, safe, suitable, or endorsed.
Users should check important details directly with the relevant business, marina, organisation, or authority before relying on them.
Boat Log, expenses, and uploads
7. Boat Log services
Boat Log is designed to help users keep records about their boat, journeys, maintenance, costs, documents, notes, memories, and related information.
Boat Log may include:
- private log entries
- journey notes
- maintenance records
- expense records
- documents
- photos
- reminders
- public notes, where you choose to share them
- future AI-assisted tools
- future export, history, or resale features
Boat Log is a record-keeping tool. It is not a guarantee that your records will be complete, legally sufficient, permanently stored, or suitable for survey, resale, insurance, safety, or legal purposes.
We recommend keeping your own backups of important records, documents, receipts, manuals, invoices, surveys, and safety information.
Boat Log can help you organise your records. It should not be your only copy of important documents.
8. Private and public Boat Log content
Private Boat Log entries are intended to remain private unless you choose to make them public, share them, export them, or otherwise give permission for them to be used.
If you choose to publish selected notes publicly, those notes must follow our Community Values and may be displayed in relevant areas of the site, such as place pages, Directory pages, guides, public notes, or search results.
You are responsible for checking that public notes do not include private information, personal data, confidential details, or content you do not have the right to share.
We may remove or restrict public notes where needed.
9. Expense tracking and cost tools
Narrow & Wide may provide expense tracking, cost estimation, budgeting, comparison, or cost insight tools.
These tools may help users estimate or track costs such as:
- moorings
- licence fees
- insurance
- fuel
- heating
- gas
- electricity
- solar and batteries
- blacking
- servicing
- repairs
- upgrades
- surveys
- Boat Safety Scheme costs
- marina fees
- pump-outs or toilet-related costs
- general boat-related expenses
Cost tools are for general information only.
They cannot predict every cost, emergency, repair, personal circumstance, market change, regional difference, or unlucky surprise.
If you submit cost or expense data, it should be genuine and based on real costs. You must not deliberately submit false, exaggerated, artificially low, artificially high, malicious, joke, or manipulative entries.
Future cost insights may use anonymised or aggregated data. False entries may lead to content removal, account restrictions, or exclusion from insights.
10. AI-assisted services
Narrow & Wide may use AI-assisted services in the future.
These may help with:
- rewriting rough Boat Log notes
- summarising entries
- organising records
- suggesting tags or categories
- helping draft listings
- improving readability
- suggesting cost categories
- finding patterns in your own records
AI-assisted tools can make mistakes.
You are responsible for checking anything generated, rewritten, categorised, summarised, or suggested by AI before relying on it, publishing it, sharing it, or using it in a listing or public contribution.
AI tools do not replace professional advice, safety checks, surveys, legal checks, financial advice, insurance advice, or personal judgement.
11. Uploads, storage, and backups
Some services may allow images, documents, receipts, manuals, surveys, invoices, videos, PDFs, or other files to be uploaded.
You are responsible for ensuring that:
- you have the right to upload the content
- the content is lawful
- the content does not breach privacy, copyright, or confidentiality
- the content does not contain malware or harmful material
- public uploads do not reveal information you meant to keep private
We may limit file types, storage amounts, file sizes, or access to uploaded content.
We may remove uploads that breach these Terms, create risk, or are no longer needed.
You should keep your own backups of important documents and media.
Paid services and communications
12. Paid services, subscriptions, and upgrades
Narrow & Wide may offer paid services now or in the future.

Access to paid services may depend on successful payment, account status, availability, and compliance with these Terms.
13. Payments, cancellations, and refunds
Payment terms will depend on the specific service purchased.
Where payments are available, the checkout, invoice, subscription page, or purchase flow should explain:
- the price
- what is included
- whether payment is one-off or recurring
- billing frequency
- cancellation options
- refund terms
- any relevant VAT or tax information, where applicable
Refunds may not be available for services already delivered, listings already published, or digital services already accessed, unless required by law or clearly stated otherwise.
If a separate refund policy is provided for a particular service, that policy will also apply.
14. Advertising, sponsorship, and affiliate links
Narrow & Wide may include advertising, sponsorship, affiliate links, promoted placements, or commercial partnerships.
Where required, paid or sponsored content should be made clear.
Commercial relationships should not be allowed to make the platform misleading, cluttered, or untrustworthy.
Affiliate links or sponsored placements do not mean that a product, service, business, or listing is guaranteed to be suitable for you.
You should make your own checks before buying, booking, or relying on third-party products or services.
15. Early access and beta features
Some services may be offered as early access, beta, test, preview, or experimental features.
These features may:
- change quickly
- contain errors
- be incomplete
- be limited to certain users
- be paused or removed
- have missing functionality
- produce imperfect results
By using early access features, you understand that they may not work perfectly and may change as the platform develops.
16. Service communications and support

- enquiries
- payments
- security
- Boat Log updates
- expense tracking
- service changes
- early access tools
- moderation issues
- legal notices
- important platform updates
We may also offer newsletters or optional updates where you choose to subscribe.
Support may be limited, especially while Narrow & Wide is small or in early stages. We will try to respond fairly and practically, but we cannot guarantee immediate replies or support for every issue.
Changes, limits, and legal details

19. Data, privacy, and security
Our handling of personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy.
Some services may involve personal data, account data, uploaded files, usage data, payment-related data, public content, private Boat Log content, or cost data.
We will aim to handle data carefully and proportionately, but no online system can be guaranteed completely secure.
You should avoid uploading highly sensitive information unless it is necessary for the service you are using.
20. Limitations of the services

We do not guarantee:
- uninterrupted access

These Terms of Service are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes will be subject to the courts of England and Wales, unless consumer protection rules require otherwise.
